College of Science and Mathematics
The College of Science and Mathematics implements a strong educational pathway for students through a comprehensive dedication to quality teaching, research, and service. Among our priorities is dedication to a thorough offering of primary courses in mathematics and natural and physical sciences, along with supporting courses for students in outside academic areas, and the opportunity for students to concentrate studies in a major field of science, technology, or engineering. Our range of degree programs, along with an emphasis in research opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students, are available with the vision of preparing students to successfully enter fields in health care, research, education, manufacturing, environmental science, engineering, and business, among others, as outstanding contributors to their communities and professions.
The Dean's Circle is a community of alumni, faculty, staff and friends who, with annual leadership gifts, provide critical support that allows the College to seize opportunities as it strives toward its goal of excellence. To foster programs, scholarships, and research that shape the leaders of tomorrow, the College relies on the generosity of donors.
Study Abroad programs equip students with international experiences, language capabilities and cross-cultural communication skills necessary to succeed in the global economy. Learning how to interact with people from other countries and cultures equips future leaders to address urgent issues shared across borders.
Biological Sciences provides a more intimate educational experience by having smaller class sizes in advanced courses which offers more individual attention. Laboratory experience is hands on with industry standard biological techniques and instrumentation but also extends to off-campus study including state parks and Tarleton's Timberlake Biological Field Station. Timberlake Biological Field Station advances environmental research, engages students in scientific discovery, and promotes stewardship of the natural world. The vision is to be a model field station focused on education, outreach and research associated with the ecological integrity of the Colorado River and the diverse flora and fauna of the Cross Timbers and Edwards Plateau ecoregions of Texas. At Timberlake Tarleton students gain valuable field experience to support their classroom learning.
Chemistry, Geosciences, and Physics boasts a student/faculty ratio of 21 to 1, which maintains the emphasis on an educational mentor bond between student and teacher. Bachelor's programs are offered in Physics with astronomy, medical, nuclear engineering emphasis as well as math and chemistry teacher certification programs. Also available are Professional Chemistry degree paths which prepare students for postgraduate degree programs, Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental, Pre-Pharmacy and Biochemistry and Forensic Chemistry and a Bachelor of Science in Geoscience.
Mathematics provides programs of study that prepare students who are interested in teaching mathematics at the secondary level, seeking employment in industry or planning to pursue graduate study in Mathematics. This department offers a teacher certification plan as well as optional concentrations for the Bachelor of Science in Mathematics such as- Bio-mathematics, Financial Analysis, Systems Analysis, Pre-Actuarial, Pre-Law, Pre-Medical/Dental, and Technical Writing.
