College of Health Sciences

The College of Health Sciences more than 1,900 students enrolled in successful, established programs in counseling, medical lab sciences, nursing, public health and social work.

The Dean's Circle is a community of alumni, faculty, staff and friends who, with annual leadership gifts, provide critical support that allows the College to seize opportunities as it strives toward its goal of excellence. To foster programs, scholarships, and research that shape the leaders of tomorrow, the College relies on the generosity of donors.

Study Abroad programs equip students with international experiences, language capabilities and cross-cultural communication skills necessary to succeed in the global economy. Learning how to interact with people from other countries and cultures equips future leaders to address urgent issues shared across borders.

Counseling offers a Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, which includes coursework that satisfies the academic requirements to become a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Texas. Students with a teaching certificate and two years of teaching experience who are interested in becoming a Professional School Counselor may take coursework that satisfies the academic requirements for the TExES school counseling certification test.

Medical Laboratory Sciences and Public Health offers prestigious programs in both the Fort Worth Medical District and on the Stephenville campus. Our laboratory education programs prepare students for high-demand positions in hospital and research clinical laboratories. Our Public Health degree options include Health Educator, Public Health Laboratory Scientist and pre-graduate tracks.

The School of Nursing boasts more than 1,000 students in a variety of programs. Our nursing students have a 90.9% pass rate on the National Council of State Boards of Nursing Licensure (NCLEX) exams and are making a real impact on healthcare in Texas and around the world.

The mission of the School of Kinesiology is to provide educational opportunities related to movement and health, provide leadership experiences through service and promote the total well-being of students; not only for a career, but for a lifetime. The School of Kinesiology is one of the fastest growing programs at Tarleton State University. When you take into consideration that this department is adept at providing groundbreaking educational opportunities related to movement and health, organizing leadership experiences through service and promoting the total well-being of students for a lifetime, the growth rate is not surprising. Bachelor's degrees are awarded that allow graduates to teach, coach, enter the allied health profession, recreation and the fitness industry. Gifts may be made to Kinesiology as well as Sport Science and Health & Human Performance. Other giving opportunities include the Laboratory for Wellness & Motor Behavior and the Dr. Wendell Sadler Distinguished Lecture Series in Kinesiology.

Students enrolled in Social Work respond to the diverse needs of multicultural communities throughout North and Central Texas, with an emphasis on service to Hispanic, military and rural populations. The profession of social work is guided by a Code of Ethics, with core values of service, integrity, importance of human relationships, social justice, dignity and worth of the person, and competence. Social work graduates in Texas are eligible for licensure at both the baccalaureate and graduate levels, providing a myriad of opportunities for employment. Faculty engage with students in research and community-based projects.
